UWA NEW CONSERVATION TARIFFS PLUS UGANDA HIGH AND LOW SEASON DISCOUNTED CHIMPANZEE & GORILLA PERMIT PRICES
The Uganda Wildlife Authority has introduced structured updates affecting permits such as the chimpanzee & gorilla permits, primate tracking, and safari bookings across Uganda’s protected areas.
These UWA New Tariffs, plus Uganda’s high-season and low-season discounted permit prices, redefine pricing strategy while strengthening conservation funding.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park remains Uganda’s flagship tourism product, as well as chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park.
Below are the details about UWA’s new conservation tariffs and major changes.
Low-Season Discount Strategy
The Uganda Wildlife Authority has introduced low-season discounted permits that will run in the low season months of April, May, and November with immediate effect.
The discounted products or safari activities for the low season are the gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking permits, as shown below.
| SAFARI ACTIVITY | Foreign Non-Residents (USD) | Foreign Residents (USD) |
| Gorilla Trekking | 600 | 500 |
| Chimpanzee Tracking | 200 | 150 |
The intended purposes of introducing these low-season discounts on chimpanzee and gorilla permits are:
- Boost low-season occupancy and participation in Uganda tours
- Stabilize revenue flow from these Uganda safari experiences
- Improve Park utilization during the low season months
The UWA is optimistic about these changes and the advantages they will bring to Uganda’s tourism sector.
UWA Booking System Reform
Another of the changes made by the Uganda Wildlife Authority is closely related to the booking system.
The old UWA booking system allowed a 7-day unpaid hold on the chimpanzee and gorilla permits, which seemed inconvenient for most tour operators and agents.
Therefore, UWA decided to reform the whole booking system and introduced new reservation directives, which include instant payment confirmation.
This will ensure fair distribution of permits within the UWA permit allocation system.
2027 UWA Conservation Tariff Adjustments
From January 1, 2027, the Uganda Wildlife Authority also introduced more changes, which include
- Adjusted chimpanzee and gorilla permit pricing
- Introduced Premium wildlife tracking
- Rhino Tracking at Ajai
- Golden Cat Tracking in Kibale National Park
The new rates and tariffs for these activities, starting January 2026, include
| SAFARI ACTIVITY | Foreign Non-Residents (USD) | Foreign Residents (USD) | Rest of Africa (USD) | East African Citizens (UGX) |
| Gorilla Trekking | 800 | 700 | 500 | 300,000 |
| Gorilla Habituation Experiences | 1,800 | 1,600 | 1,000 | 750,000 |
| Chimpanzee Tracking | 300 | 200 | 100 | 180,000 |
| Chimpanzee Habituation Experiences | 400 | 300 | 250 | 250,000 |
| Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Tracking | 200 | 150 | 100 | 50,000 |
| Golden Cat Tracking in Kibale National Park (5 DAYS) | 350 | 350 | 350 | 350,000 |
| Lion Tracking in Queen Elizabeth Park | 500 | 300 | 300 | 250,000 |
| Guided Buhoma to Nkuringo Walk | 100 | 50 | 50 | 50,000 |
| Guided Rushaga to Nyabaremura | 80 | 50 | 50 | 50,000 |
| Rhino Tracking in Ajai Reserve (Adults) | 20 | 15 | 10 | 10,000 |
| Rhino Tracking in Ajai Reserve (Children) | 5 | 5 | 3 | 2,500 |
Regional Competitive Advantage of The Tariffs
Uganda remains cost-effective compared to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park while offering:
- Larger gorilla population (459+ in 25 gorilla groups)
- Multi-park safari circuits worth enjoying during Uganda trips
- Extended wildlife diversity in the different Uganda National Parks

The release of these new UWA conservation tariffs means that travelers seeking to enjoy Uganda vacations can now
