UGANDA HIGH AND LOW SEASON DISCOUNTED CHIMPANZEE & GORILLA PERMIT PRICES appeared first on Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has introduced structured updates affecting permits such as the chimpanzee & gorilla permits, primate tracking, and safari bookings across Uganda’s protected areas.

These UWA New Tariffs, plus Uganda’s high-season and low-season discounted permit prices, redefine pricing strategy while strengthening conservation funding.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park remains Uganda’s flagship tourism product, as well as chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park.

Below are the details about UWA’s new conservation tariffs and major changes.

Low-Season Discount Strategy

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has introduced low-season discounted permits that will run in the low season months of April, May, and November with immediate effect.

The discounted products or safari activities for the low season are the gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking permits, as shown below.

SAFARI ACTIVITY

Foreign Non-Residents (USD)

Foreign Residents (USD)

Gorilla Trekking

600

500

Chimpanzee Tracking

200

150

The intended purposes of introducing these low-season discounts on chimpanzee and gorilla permits are:

Boost low-season occupancy and participation in Uganda tours

Stabilize revenue flow from these Uganda safari experiences

Improve Park utilization during the low season months

The UWA is optimistic about these changes and the advantages they will bring to Uganda’s tourism sector.

UWA Booking System Reform

Another of the changes made by the Uganda Wildlife Authority is closely related to the booking system.

The old UWA booking system allowed a 7-day unpaid hold on the chimpanzee and gorilla permits, which seemed inconvenient for most tour operators and agents.

Therefore, UWA decided to reform the whole booking system and introduced new reservation directives, which include instant payment confirmation.

This will ensure fair distribution of permits within the UWA permit allocation system.

2027 UWA Conservation Tariff Adjustments

From January 1, 2027, the Uganda Wildlife Authority also introduced more changes, which include

Adjusted chimpanzee and gorilla permit pricing

Introduced Premium wildlife tracking

Rhino Tracking at Ajai

Golden Cat Tracking in Kibale National Park

The new rates and tariffs for these activities, starting January 2026, include

SAFARI ACTIVITY
<td conservation tariffs means that travelers seeking to enjoy Uganda vacations can now

Book early for peak season

Consider April, May, and November for savings on safari activities GLOBAL STAGE appeared first on Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Uganda is celebrating a historic milestone as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of the country’s most iconic conservation areas, has been ranked the 3rd Best Adventure Destination in the World during the TOURISE Global Tourism Awards held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia held on 10th November 2025.

This global recognition cements Uganda’s status as a leading African destination for conservation, sustainability, nature-based tourism, and adventure travel.

The TOURISE Awards honor the world’s top tourism destinations that demonstrate excellence in environmental stewardship, visitor experiences, community involvement, and innovation in sustainable tourism.

It was previously named Africa’s Best Birding Site (2012) by the African Bird Club, featured by CNN (2019) among the planet’s most beautiful places and best hiking trails, and crowned Best Wildlife Destination (2017) at the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo.

This year’s ranking places Bwindi among elite global destinations such as Ancash in Peru and the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador—an achievement that showcases the park’s profound ecological significance and the success of Uganda’s conservation model.

About Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a popular destination for Uganda safari tours, sits in southwestern Uganda, touching the Congo border and the dramatic Albertine Rift.

It’s 321 km² of ancient rainforest, more than 25,000 years old, is so thick that the only way in is on foot.

Recognized by UNESCO in 1994, it protects roughly half of all remaining mountain gorillas (around 400–460), plus chimpanzees, forest elephants, rare birds, and incredible plant life, most of which is seen by travelers on safaris in Uganda, Africa.

Uganda gorilla trekking is the star activity done to see the main attraction- the endangered Mountain gorillas during Uganda gorilla safaris, but visitors also enjoy forest walks, birdwatching, and meeting the indigenous Batwa and neighboring Bakiga communities during Uganda tours.

What Makes Bwindi a Global Adventure Icon?

Home to nearly half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas in an ancient, mist-shrouded rainforest

Offers the planet’s most emotional wildlife encounter through intimate gorilla trekking in Uganda

Combines extreme biodiversity (350+ birds, 120+ mammals, 1,000+ plants) with rugged, foot-only terrain

Sets the gold standard for low-impact, high-value wildlife tourism

Deeply integrates local communities and Batwa heritage into the visitor experience

Conservation success backed by strong governance

Global Recognition and Its Significance for Uganda

Ranked 3rd Best Adventure Destination in the 2025 success and sustainable tourism leadership

Celebrated nationwide by communities, operators, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority

Strengthens local community empowerment

What This Means for Uganda’s Tourism Future

Bwindi’s global ranking is expected to:

Dramatically increase Key sustainability factors recognized by TOURISE include:

Strict gorilla trekking regulations that include limited daily permits and strict rules protect gorilla health and habitat

Revenue-sharing with local communities, where 20% of park fees are directly shared with surrounding communities

Controlled lodge development and sustainability practices where eco-lodges run on solar power, recycle waste, and employ locals

Alternative income programs (beekeeping, crafts) reduce pressure on the forest and improve the anti-poaching efforts

Conservation research partnerships with IGCP, WWF, and CTPH drive ongoing conservation wins

This balanced approach ensures that tourism generates income while safeguarding ecosystems for future generations.

Adventure Activities That Make Bwindi Stand Out

Mountain Gorilla Trekking – a life-changing activity that allows visitors to spend a 1 hour with habituated families in their natural habitat

Forest Hiking & Nature Trails – several challenging trails through dense jungle, waterfalls, and ancient forest corridors

Birding Adventures – With over 350 bird species, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics, Bwindi is among Africa’s top birdwatching destinations

Batwa and Bakiga Cultural Encounters – Visitors can engage with the Bakiga or Batwa communities, learning about their forest traditions, music, storytelling, and conservation history

Photography Expeditions – misty rainforest landscapes with perfect light and rare wildlife diversity make it a top destination for nature photography

Conservation Education Tours – behind-the-scenes with rangers, students, and conservationists who visit Bwindi for fieldwork and ecological studies.

Other Uganda Wildlife Safari Parks to Add to Bwindi Expeditions

Queen Elizabeth NP – tree-climbing lions, boat cruises, big game

Kibale Forest NP – chimpanzee tracking and primate heaven

Mgahinga Gorilla NP – golden monkeys and Virunga volcano climbs

Lake Bunyonyi – serene island paddling and relaxation

Top Uganda Travel Agents Offering Bwindi Tours

Prime Safaris and Tours Ltd

Wild Gorilla Safaris

Safari Uganda Safaris

Gorilla Safaris and Tours

A Uganda Safari

Africa Safaris Tours

Uganda Birding Safaris

Gorilla Trekking Uganda

Kampala City Tour

Self-Drive Car Hire Rentals Uganda

Car Hire Rentals Uganda Kampala

Popular packages they offer include: 3-Day Bwindi Gorilla Trek, 3-Day Flying Gorilla Safari, 6-Day Gorillas & Chimps, 5-Day Rwanda-Uganda Double Trek.

Conclusion

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park’s recognition as the 3rd Best Adventure Destination in the World is a national victory for Uganda and a global acknowledgment of the country’s commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism. It demonstrates the strength of Uganda’s protected area management, the resilience of its communities, and the immense ecological value of its natural heritage.

As Uganda continues to shine on the global stage, Bwindi stands as a symbol of the country’s achievements and a beacon of what conservation-centered tourism can achieve.

Don’t miss an adventure of a lifetime. Uganda airlines continues to defy the odds and critics alike as it continues to reach new heights every other day. Today marks a new chapter in the operations of Uganda’s new airline company as it has made its maiden direct flight from Entebbe to Mombasa a move authorities are banking on to help boost trade and tourism between Uganda and Kenya.

With the Uganda government set on bolstering its travel and tourism sector of the country, it decided to revive the national airline carrier which had run defunct by 2001 when the government privatized many of the state-run enterprises that were no longer being profitable. However with the ever-growing tourism sector that is raking in not less than 1.4 billion dollars annually and the oil sector which is slowly taking shape in Uganda, the government decided to revive the national airline carrier to capitalize on high levels of movement of both passengers and cargo mainly from these 2 sectors and also the high number of government officials who travel abroad as a way of ensuring that this airline stays afloat.

Uganda airlines takes to the skies

Earlier this year in April, the airline received its first 2 new planes of Bombardier CRJ900 that were procured from the Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier. These have a carrying capacity of 76 people with 12 business class seats and 64 economy class seats. At the end of August, Uganda airlines commenced its first operations which saw it fly to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In a space of 5 months, the airline has expanded to new routes or destinations which include Juba, Mogadishu, Bujumbura, Kilimanjaro, Dar-es-salaam, Nairobi and now it will start flying to Mombasa as well. All this is thanks to the arrival of the second batch of 2 other Bombardier CRJ900 planes to take the tally of the company’s aircraft to 4 giving it capacity to fly to all these destinations simultaneously in a bid to keep its esteemed every growing clientele list satisfied with the services

Back to today’s maiden flight to Mombasa

The carrier’s Bombardier aircraft is expected to touch down at Moi International Airport, Mombasa at 1320hrs, making it the seventh destination since it resumed operations on August 27 this year.

The inaugural flight will departed Entebbe International Airport at 1130hrs and arrive Moi International Airport, Mombasa at 1320hrs then return to Entebbe at 1530hrs following the airlines Entebbe-Mombasa flight launch program. Uganda Airlines is set fly to Mombasa three times a week on Monday, Friday and Sunday.

According to our sources this 1 hour minute trip to the coastal town of Mombasa is targets the Ugandan business community which relies to the port city of Mombasa as an entry and exit point of their merchandise from and to international markets such as China, Dubai, India, America, Europe and southern Africa. You shouldn’t forget that Mombasa is also a very lucrative tourism destination especially for Africa honeymoon holidays as it is home to numerous beach resorts.

The trip will cut down the travel time from Kampala to Mombasa from over 18 hours of travel by road to only close 2 hours which gives more time in Mombasa to carry out your business meetings or more time at the beach.

Fly to Kenya for a magical Kenya safari

If you decide to fly to Kenya wildlife safari, you in for an exciting Kenya safari tour experience as Kenya is home to exciting Africa wildlife safari encounters when you get to visit Kenya safaris destinations such as Masai Mara National Reserve, Nairobi National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Tsavo East National Park, Aberdares National Park and Amboseli National Park

Many of these national parks are home to Africa’s big five mammals which include elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, lions and leopards and a variety of other wild mammals which include the Masai giraffes, wildebeests and plain zebras and many others. In the world of travellers especially those who engage in Africa safari tours, Uganda is regarded as the pearl of Africa, this name stems way back in 1908 in a book entitled my African journey that was authored by Sir Winston Churchill the British premier at the time who wrote this book after his journey to Africa which saw him visit many African countries which were under British rule by then such as Egypt, Sudan, Uganda and Kenya.

During his visit to Uganda in 1907 Churchill was impressed by the utter beauty of this country- Uganda given its magnificent landscapes, diverse wildlife and culture, food and impeccable weather that’s comparable to none and when he was writing about his African expedition, he described Uganda in these words “For magnificence, for variety of form and color, for profusion of brilliant life bird-insect-reptile and beast, for vast scale, Uganda is truly the pearl of Africa”. Indeed even after the lapse of over a century, many of Uganda safari holidaymakers are still getting almost the same impression just as Churchill did get in 1907 when he made his Africa safari journey to this country because except for human and infrastructural development, Uganda’s beauty has virtually remained intact. One of the attractions that have still helped Uganda to retain this picturesque name are the mountain gorillas

There is nothing that excites like an Africa gorilla safari adventure and as of today, many Africa safari-goers are increasingly seeking to have their own maverick gorilla stories to tell. This has therefore made gorilla trekking safaris Africa a must-do activity on many of tourists bucket list when they visit countries where these gorillas are.

What are mountain gorillas?

Scientifically termed as Gorilla beringei beringei, mountain gorillas are typically gentle and amazingly shy and calm animals that have thick and long fur and this enables them to live in cooler temperature climatic zones, each gorilla can be identified basing on its nose print which is unique to each individual, adult males can weigh as much as 195 kg with a standing height of 168cm or 66 inches while their female counterparts can weigh 100kg with a height of 140 cm or 55inches. Mountain gorillas are diurnal animals as they are very active in the early morning and evening hours which they use for foraging or eating, they maintain a herbivorous diet which consists of leaves, fruits, tree branches and bamboo shoots. these gentle mountain giants are Bwindi impenetrable national park’s tourism signature symbol and as well as Uganda’s. This park serves as a habitat to about 400 of these mountain giants and this number constitutes about half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. These gorillas live in families of about 5 to 30 and are headed by a predominant male called a silverback due to its silver-like lining on its back. It should be noted that not all gorilla families that habituate in Bwindi can be viewed by tourists because not all of them have been habituated for human interaction and also there is a high risk of passing diseases between humans and gorillas.

Are Gorillas Related to Humans in Uganda?

Initially, the humans belonged to their Hominidae taxonomy family while the apes were put in another taxonomic family named Pongidae. The separation between the two was brought about by specialization in anatomy, the human brain which is highly developed along with distinct locomotion. However, this has been declared outdated overtime putting the gorilla’s close relatives to humans second to Chimpanzees and coming before Orangutans. It can be noted that the genetic composition of the apes matches that of humans to a considerable degree with a small distinction in DNA. The gene analysis indicates that man and gorillas differ by 1.6% while man with chimpanzees differs by 1.2%. For gorillas and Chimps, the difference is 1.8% The DNA mitochondrial which is recorded to change faster, the geneticists identified a gap of 8.8% between chimps and humans, 10.3% between gorillas and humans. It should be noted that despite the closeness of the chimpanzees and bonobos to humans, the gorillas resemble humans in a range of aspects. For example, the hands and feet of gorilla resemble those of man than other apes while their feet is more suited for walking just like humans since they spend most of the time on the ground unlike other apes. This is common in mountain gorillas that are encountered on gorilla trekking Uganda safaris.

Are you interested in having an encounter with these majestic humans of the wild? Well, your answers have been perfectly answered because a Uganda gorilla safari is all you need to make to have all your gorilla dreams come true. Uganda is one of the very few countries on the planet that are home to the mighty gorillas. A gorilla encounter in Uganda comes to pass with a gorilla trekking Uganda safari to either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga gorilla national park. When you decide to make this gorilla safari Uganda to either Bwindi impenetrable forest or Mgaihnga Gorilla Park, you’re in a position to meet any of the 19 gorilla families that are found within these two parks.

These 19 gorilla families have been habituated- getting them used to human presence hence giving you a chance to have a bewildering gorilla trekking Uganda tour experience when you get in contact with these gorillas. The gorilla families that have been habituated for gorilla trekking in Uganda include Mubare, Habinyanja, Rushegura, Katwe, Oruzogo, Bitukura, Kyaguriro, Muzika Bushaho and Nkuringo Nshongi, Kahungye, Bweza, Busingye, Mishaya, Bushaho, Rwigi Bweza, Mucungizi & Bikiyingi

A New Baby Gorilla Is Born

The future of gorilla trekking safaris Uganda is looking brighter and brighter each day that passes and as of today word reaching our news desk is that just like last month when Businza of the Mubare group gave birth to a healthy baby gorilla, today it was another female gorilla name named Karungi of the same group- Mubare has given birth to another new baby gorilla hence contributing to the growing broad of a new generation of young gorillas that will definitely excite you on your next Africa gorilla safari in a few years time to come as they usually overlook the 7 meter rule that should always be maintained between the gorillas and their human friends who pay them a visit in their natural dwelling while on their Uganda gorilla safari adventure because they are always interested in incorporating you in their plays especially if you chance to find them in a jovial mood.

as we have said earlier on you can always choose to do gorilla trekking in Uganda in either Bwindi or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Uganda.

If you choose Mgahinga, you should expect to have thrilling encounters with the Nyakengezi gorilla family that has been habituated for gorilla trekking. Besides gorillas , there are still other attractions in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Uganda which await you on your safari in Uganda to Mgahinga and these include the golden monkeys, Batwa people, the Virunga ranges of Muhabura, Sabinyo and Gahinga. The other parks are Bwindi impenetrable national park in Uganda, Volcanoes National park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in Congo. To have a great shot with the mountain gorillas it must be a Uganda gorilla safari, gorilla safari Rwanda or a Congo gorilla trekking safari.

With Uganda and Rwanda in East Africa, for a profusion of wildlife sightings including the big five (Buffaloes, Rhinos, Elephants, Lions and Leopards) taking a wildlife safari in Tanzania or Kenya wildlife safari is a great option.

“It’s interesting to see Gen Z people keen on exploring new destinations and trying to find and share their experiences with friends at these must-photograph destinations on social media.” Stated the director of the telecommunication firm (Huawei).

About Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is situated in Kisoro district in south western Uganda. This is the second Uganda gorilla trekking tour destination in Uganda. It is situated within the Virunga massif (a chain of 8 volcanoes) home to one habituated gorilla family known as Nyakagezi Gorilla family. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park covers 33.7km2 about 8% of the great Virunga massif and sits on an altitude ranging from 2,227m-4,127m above sea level. The park is formed of three conical extinct volcanoes which are Mt Gahinga, Mt Sabinyo and Mt Muhabura.

The habituated gorilla group known as Nyakagezi has over 10 members, 4 silverbacks, 3 adult females, 2 juveniles and 2 infants. The gorillas are part of the 604 gorillas in the Virunga massif and to trek you need a prior booked permit at USD 600 per person per trek.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park has bamboo trees which makes the visibility and photography of mountain gorillas better, this gives chance for as many photos as possible.

Trekking mountain gorillas in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Uganda is perfect with the golden monkey trek. Nothing better than meeting gold and silver in one habitat.

Its only during a hike in Virunga that you get an all East and Central African experience only on a Uganda gorilla trekking tour as you set foot on Uganda, Rwanda and Congo just within 8 hours when you reach to the top.

The Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Experience

The Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus Mitis Kandti) is a local subspecies of the widespread Sykes Monkey, also known as the “Blue Monkey” and is endemic to the high-altitude forests of the Virunga massif. This is a little known bamboo associated taxa primate listed as endangered by the World Conservation Union. Mgahinga National Park offers the chance to trek golden monkeys which are endemic to the Albertine rift. Golden monkeys are characterized as a bright orange-gold body, cheeks and tail, contrasting with its black limbs, crown and tail.

Golden monkeys are a beautiful sub species of monkeys from their golden coat, long tail to the playful and intrusive character. They spend most of their time leaping from bamboo branches or skipping on the forest floor in a manner that offers lasting memories to those who decide to go golden monkey trekking. Their amazing and impressive character has made golden monkey trekking one of the popular Uganda safari activity most especially tailored to Uganda gorilla trekking safaris.

A 2003 survey estimated a population of 3,000 – 4,000 golden monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a good number to guarantee their sighting during a Uganda tour. This is the only national park in Uganda with the golden monkeys and the only park where silverback gorillas co-exist with golden monkeys a reason the park won itself the slogan, where gold meets silver.

About the Golden Monkey Trekking activity

Just like it is with the Uganda Gorilla safaris, Golden Monkey Trekking also begins at 8:00 am local time in the morning with an orientation just like on many other Uganda tours and then after you head to the forest along what is referred to as the Gahinga Trail. When you get into the presence of the Golden Monkeys you will know it, the forest comes alive with monkeys everywhere, even jumping over you, and the commotion of Monkey activities will be amazing. The monkeys dictate how the day is going to be, and no day is ever the same in the forest, the experience is unique to each safari to Uganda tourists.

The golden monkey experience is not as exhausting as Gorilla Trekking safari since Golden Monkeys do not move around and build new nests each day. They remain pretty well in the same area making it easy to get to them. On seeing the golden monkeys, you spend a maximum of 1 hour then leave the forest.

If you would love to spend more time with these striking species, choosing to undertake golden monkey habituation is a great option. You can tailor this to your gorilla tour Uganda getting a chance to spend four (4) hours in the presence of the golden monkeys and understanding their life.

Since the forest is covered with bamboo, it is not difficult to get good photos. However, a longer lens is recommended as they can be more active and playful so could easily move away from you as you get close.

What to Pack for a gorilla & Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Just like on any safari Uganda or short Uganda tour, you need to also dress appropriately for your Uganda golden monkey trekking safari and Uganda gorilla safari experience. It is best to wear long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, a hat, light-rain-jacket, waterproof hiking boots.

Other things to carry include a waterproof daypack, enough bottled water with some snacks and of course your camera and all the necessary equipment.

Tourists can also trek golden monkeys on a Rwanda safari to Volcanoes National Park. This 13 Days Uganda Rwanda safari is a popular way tourists decide to tailor their Uganda Rwanda safari trips especially those interested in Uganda wildlife safaris.

The post Take a snap in Uganda’s best photography destination, Mgahinga appeared first on Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

The Nyakagezi Gorilla Family of Mgahinga

Samuel Makanga

Travel Blog

Travel Information

The post The Nyakagezi Gorilla Family of Mgahinga appeared first on Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

The post The Nyakagezi Gorilla Family of Mgahinga appeared first on Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

A must stop Uganda birders destination

Samuel Makanga

Travel Blog

Silver back Situated in the Virunga conservation area, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park...

The post A must stop Uganda birders destination appeared first on Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Silver back

Situated in the Virunga conservation area, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park was gazzetted in 1991 and it covers an area of about is 33.7 sq. km.
